My collections

As a frequent traveller, I have always had a special attraction for those items that are commonly found in hotels and that seem to be placed there for people to take as a souvenir. My collections include:

"Do Not Disturb" Signs

Airline Spoons

Toilet Seat Bands

This was my first collection and is still the most popular. The signs come from hotels, cruise ships and airlines.

Some display the name and/or a logo of the hotel or hotel chain, while others are generic. Some advertise products and services.

Some signs are very attractive while others are rather plain. Some are wooden sculptures, others are decorated with seashells.

I couldn't help noticing these items on my many flights, but I only started collecting them recently.

The quality and design vary quite considerably and, in a way, they reflect the quality of the service you can expect from a particular airline company.

After September 11 many airlines have replaced metal cutlery with plastic making it more difficult to obtain new pieces.

Toilet seat bands are probably the most insignificant items in a hotel bathroom.

They claim to guarantee sanitary safety and hygiene, often only in theory. Usually one just tears them up when the "seat" is first used.

But, believe it or not, some of these toilet seat bands are quite attractive, and I thought they deserved to be saved.
